Kinnaird school receives $25,000 prize

Kinnaird Elementary in Castlegar is one of 10 schools across the country to receive $25,000 for their green initiatives.

Kinnaird Elementary has been recognized by the Staples Canada Superpower your School Contest.

The school district cut down all of the mature trees in the school yard six years ago.

Kinnaird Elementary responded by not only planting 40 mature trees but also built shrub gardens, vegetable gardens, a wetlands pond and much more.

The $25,000 will purchase a new computer lab for students.
