Council favors affordable concept

Castlegar City Council looks to be in favor of donating land for a new affordable housing development.

The Kootenay Society for Community Living presented their plan for a $1.5 million two story facility last night.

Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff says staff had previously suggested a number of city owned lots potentially available to the society and they’ve requested it be built on Eighth Avenue and Ninth Street.

The two story development would have 24/7 service on the top floor for individuals with developmental disabilities and have three affordable housing units on the bottom floor.
