There is no public access to a wheelchair accessible vehicle in the West Kootenay.
This from the Age Friendly Community initiative which is a project of the Nelson Cares Society.
The Project’s Randi Jensen says she reached out to the local Seniors Co-ordinating Society after she struggled to transport her mother from the Jubilee Manor to a family event.
The AFC has now partnered with the Kootenay Careshare Co-op and the Seniors Co-ordinating society to explore adding a wheelchair accessible van to the fleet.
The project will also be putting out a survey to gauge residents’ support.
