A rural director is completely behind a proposed new hospice in Castlegar.
With 300 palliative patients dying every year in regional acute care beds, a hospice would take care of some of that load.
It would also benefit taxpayers.
A hospital bed can cost upwards of $1,000 a day while a hospice one is normally around $300.
Andy Davidoff believes the new facility deserves strong consideration.
The proposed 10 bed hospice would be built in Castlegar and capable of treating around 150 patients a year.
