Nelson’s farmer market vendors will be converting to compostable or washable dishware in a move aimed to drastically reduce waste.
Lauren Andres is a waste reduction educator with the West Kootenay EcoSociety.
She bikes a waste management station after the market events.
Andres says the new policy mandating the new dishware is a good start, but the real difference will come when people change their habits.
She suggests market-goers pack their own reusable cups and containers.
