The Regional District Of Central Kootenay hopes to learn more detailed information from BC Hydro next month as to why they’ve dropped the Grohman Narrows dredging idea.
The utility announced there would not be sufficient flood control benefits from clearing out that bottle-neck on Kootenay River near Nelson.
RDCK CAO Stuart Horn says the whole investigation to dredge was prompted because of the serious high-water event in 2012.
There was alarm three summers ago when our area narrowly avoided serious flooding.
However directors have also noted there are unknown risks associated with pulling the plug at the Grohman Narrows.
