A local stewardship group has secured official society status with the province.
“Friends Of Kootenay Lake” has been working to improve the health of the body of water since 2012.
Program Manager Kat McGlynn says becoming a society highlights the group’s stability and may lead to further funding opportunities.
“Friends Of Kootenay Lake” works with several environmental, corporate and government partners and has developed monitoring and habitat restoration programs.
This year one of their main goals is a community values study to start the conversation on a future vision for the lake.
