The man who has been the driving force behind the Japanese garden in Nelson has been honoured.
Jimmy Sawada and the Friends of the Izushi Society have looked after the small garden at Cottonwood Park for decades.
This week the city acknowledged his efforts and handed over a cheque for more than a thousand dollars to help future efforts.
Sawada would like to see the garden expanded with some new ornamental trees as part of the Railtown planning.
The garden commemorates the sister-city relationship between Nelson and Izushi which was started in the late 1980’s.
