Community seeks continued Pend d’Oreille access

A local Area Director is appealing to the province to listen to community ideas for continued access to the Pend d’Oreille.

There’s a deadline this week for input on a provincial plan that would shut down access on most secondary roads.

Hans Cunningham, whose rural Salmo borders the area, says good suggestions have come from the diverse group who recreate there.

Cunningham says that could include off-road vehicle enforcement by user groups.

The province says an increase in such vehicles and illegal trail building has damaged the Pend d’Oreille area and threatens wildlife.
