The issue of school reconfiguration is back on the agenda for the Kootenay Lake District.
Public meetings are schueduled for the coming weeks during which over 80 scenarios will be presented, and that would include possible closures, grade reconfigurations or combining.
The district has 21 schools, 4 learning centres, 3 programs of distributed learning and 6 administrative sites.
But as SD8 Chair Lenora Trenamen explains they can’t afford them all.
Public meetings will be held in Nelson, Kaslo, Creston, Salmo and the Slocan Valley starting later this month.
Officials will present the many scenarios, that have been ranked or scored, and get the public’s feedback before a further round of meetings.
Some schools are operating with 25% fewer students than they’re designed to acommodate.
