A house fire at the south end of Castlegar was quickly dealt with by the fire department late Sunday.
Chief Gerry Rempel says they responded with 16 crew to the basement blaze on 10th Avenue around 7 pm.
He says whenever an interior attack is needed a large crew is necessary.
The fire was contained to the one room in the basement although there was extensive smoke damage and three occupants were taken to hospital because of suspected smoke inhalation.
