An avalanche in the Castlegar back country has claimed the life of a local snowmobiler.
The 45 year old man was sledding Monday but had failed to return.
His machine was spotted in the avalanche debris field in the College Creek Road area late that night.
Search teams, assisted by helicopter, checked the area for risks before recovering him yesterday.
RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says the man was experienced but sledding alone and it’s impossible to eliminate all risks in the back country.
The name of the deceased was not immediately released.
