Nakusp mayor reacts to hospital fund decision

Removing the cap from the hospital district’s reserve fund will help address some of the big future costs facing local taxpayers.

That’s a message from Karen Hamling, the Mayor of Nakusp and Chair of the RDCK.

Last week the hospital board decided to end the $10 million limit on the reserve fund and put another $1.7 million into it this year.

Hamling says it’s important hospital board members think regionally.

Arrow Lakes is going to need millions in ER upgrades while tens of millions will be required for the big upgrades to KBRH in Trail.

Regional residents will not face a tax increase compared to last year for this year’s hospital budget.
