The chair of the Kootenay Lake school board says they’ve made clear to the Minister of Education the sacrifices underway to help save provincial taxpayer dollars.
Lenora Trenaman was speaking after a private meeting with Mike Bernier in Nelson late Tuesday afternoon.
SD 8 looks set to close some local schools and will seek provincial dollars to renew or re-build others to save millions in maintenance costs on under-utilized spaces.
Trenaman says it was significant to have Bernier see local schools and their plans.
She says she’s cautiously optimistic after hearing Bernier tell trustees that he is their advocate in Victoria.
