GF taxes to boost reserves

A Grand Forks city councillor says it’s crucial they raise the cash to get on top of their massive infrastructure deficit.

Christine Thompson is speaking to the passing of their 2016 budget.

Residential tax hikes will help raise $1.3 million a year to address water and sewer main renewal and road repairs.

Thompson says they need to get away from doing piecemeal fixes which end up costing more in the long run.

To pay for the reserve funds residential taxes are going up while industrial taxes are unchanged.

Thompson says they depend on industry to create jobs and can not risk losing these companies.
