A local MP is hoping the new parliament under the Federal Liberals will put to rights a sad piece of history.
Richard Cannings in South Okanagan-West Kootenay is bringing forward a private members bill calling for a formal apology for Canada’s british home children.
He says the surviving childen who were sent to Canada, some of whom have ties to our area, are getting very advanced in their years.
In the 1800 and early 1900’s british home children were sent overseas as cheap labour.
Receiving countries believed they were orphans but most were not.
