Kalmikoff hearing concludes

The two day sentencing hearing for convicted robber Krista Kalmikoff has wrapped up in Nelson Supreme Court.

The prosecution is seeking a five year jail term.

That’s after factoring in the totals for her various crimes, including her role as accomplice to Andrew Stevenson in the armed robberies of the currency exchange and credit union in Nelson in 2014.

She is also guilty of fleeing police and some lesser counts.

She was the getaway driver.

Her defence is asking for between 12 and 24 months jail time.

That’s based on arguments Kalmikoff was not an active planner of the robberies and had no previous criminal record.

In a seperate technical argument the judge found that while a jury convicted Kalmikoff of robbery they may not have concluded she ever knew of the concealed shot gun Stevenson was carrying.

She will be sentenced on May 24th.
