Federal electoral reform ball is now rolling: local advocate

A local advocate for changing Canada’s voting system is celebrating a deal in Ottawa.

The government will allow the Greens and Bloc onto a parliamentary committee that will study what should replace first-past-the-post.

The 12-members will be allocated based on each party’s share of the popular vote in the last election. The Liberals will not have a majority.

Maryam Monsef, the Minister of Democratic Institutions essentially agreed with the NDP compromise proposal.

Ann Remnant in Nelson who is with Fair Vote Canada and a green party member says the ball is now rolling on electoral reform.

Remnant was behind the recent 600-signature petition in the Nelson area calling for the feds to get moving on things.
