Two affordable housing projects will be back before Nelson city council this week.
The Share Housing Initiative in the downtown is asking for financial and in-kind support worth up to $700,000. City staff have identified about $362,000 worth of fees that could potentially be waived.
But at this stage they’re only recommending making land available for an emergency access route. They’re also prepared to relax some parking requirements. The other requests will need further policy work. The proposal is to provide 42 units of affordable market rental housing.
Meanwhile, staff are recommending a letter of support for Nelson Cares’ application to redevelop Lakeside Place in lower Fairview.
That project would provide 39 units for seniors and people with disabilities.
