Regional District of Central Kootenay directors have voted the next board a 14 per cent base pay increase.
Half of that is to make up for the fact their one-third allowance for office expenses is now taxable.
Rural Kaslo director Aimee Watson says it’s also to encourage younger people to run for office.
Watson, 41, is presently the youngest director on the 20-member board.
Currently rural directors make $33,000 a year and municipal directors $13,000 in addition to what they receive from sitting on their respective councils.
The combined increase comes to a total of $62,000 per year.
The motion passed 18-2.
