RDKB Wildfire Update August 21

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary says 58 addresses remain on evacuation alert. As of yesterday, the Santa Rosa wildfire had grown to 231 hectares on the BC side of the border. The RDKB says the fire took a slight excursion to the west with north-easterly winds on the US side and firefighters are working to contain that. 14 firefighters and heavy equipment are working on the fire on the Canadian side, however more resources are being deployed. 33 addresses in the Santa Rosa and Big Sheep Creek areas remain on evacuation alert.

The Lynch Creek wildfire 25 kilometers north of Grand Forks is estimated at 161 hectares in size and is classified as being held. Homes in the area will remain on evacuation alert until it can be classified as ‘under control’.
