Rosslanders face 7% tax increase after downtown work

A big municipal tax increase for Rossland but the mayor says it was expected.

Greg Granstrom says council is set to approve a 7% increase.

That amounts to a little over a $100 extra for the average homeowner.

But the increase is exclusively because of the multi million dollar downtown upgrades last year and is well within projections.

The Columbia avenue/Washington street upgrades cost around $6.5 million.

Granstrom suggests residents need to judge this 7% increase against the lack of any tax increases since 2009…which he says is remarkable.
