Smokies captain Evan Bushy headed to NCAA

Trail Smoke Eaters captain Evan Bushy has committed to the Lake Superior State University Lakers NCAA Div. I program for next season.

Bushy, 21, collected 69 points in 115 games between the regular season and playoffs during his two-year Smoke Eaters career.

The defenceman was added to the leadership group during the second half of his first season and earned the captaincy in his second season.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to further my education and play Division I hockey at Lake Superior State,” Bushy said in a news release.

“Thank you to all of my family, teammates, coaches and the Trail Smoke Eaters for all the help along the way.”

“Our staff congratulates Evan on his commitment and thank him for all his time and contributions to the Smoke Eater organization,” Smokies GM and head coach Tim Fragle said.

Bushy’s successor as Smokies captain has not yet been named.
