While heavy smoke may not make going outside very appealing, the natural swimming ponds at Castlegar’s Millennium Park have reopened.
The ponds were temporarily closed on Aug. 4 when crews noted an issue with the well that feeds the ponds and irrigation infrastructure. The ponds were closed while the well was out of service and during the water sample testing period.
“We are happy to re-open the natural ponds in time for people to enjoy the rest of summer swimming in them,” municipal services director Chris Hallam said in a news release.
“Safety is always a top priority and water sample testing has confirmed the water is suitable for swimming.”
The city follows the Canadian Recreational Water Guidelines and regularly tests the water quality and submits the results to Interior Health for review.
The ponds previously closed this year after the city detected chlorine from an unknown source.
