West Kootenay lawyer named provincial court judge

A veteran local lawyer will soon be joining the bench.

The Ministry of the Attorney-General announced today that Tyleen Underwood has been appointed a BC Provincial Court judge effective Jan. 2. She will serve the interior and her chambers will be in Cranbrook.

According to her website, she was born and raised in the Kootenays and graduated from J.L. Crowe Secondary in Trail in 1994.

She obtained her Bachelor of Arts criminology degree from Simon Fraser University in 1998 and went on to complete her law degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 2001. She was called to the bar in BC in June 2002 and has practised in Nelson ever since. She formed her own law firm in 2007.

Her practice was evenly split between criminal law and family law in Provincial and Supreme Court.
