Changes coming to local Habitat for Humanity management

Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC will be shuffling its management with the retirement of executive director Elaine Pura at the end of the year.

“We are tremendously grateful for Elaine’s service to Habitat Southeast BC, and we wish her well in her retirement,” chair Neil Coburn wrote in a letter to partners and supporters.

Habitat Okanagan CEO Andrea Manifold will become the interim executive director for Southeast BC as of Jan. 2 while maintaining her present role.

Coburn said Pura and Manifold have already been exploring ways for the organizations to collaborate to serve families seeking affordable housing and over the last few years, the two Habitats have shared family services resources.

“Elaine’s decision to retire has provided both organizations with the perfect opportunity to see where else we might be able to benefit from shared services and resources with the goal of expanding our impact across the region,” Coburn wrote.

Manifold has been CEO of Habitat Okanagan for four and a half years. Coburn said in that time she has “made impactful changes that have drastically improved the organization’s viability and success, including the ability to build 12 new homes, and we’re excited to see her leadership for both organizations.”

Meanwhile, John Campbell, currently the director of resource development for Habitat Southeast BC will step into an executive leadership role as chief operating officer for Southeast BC and will manage the day-to-day operations and staff.

Campbell has spent most of his career working in the not-for-profit field for some of Canada’s largest charitable organizations. For the past two and a half years he has been working for Habitat Southeast BC to bring a greater level of community support, awareness, and volunteer resources.

Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC recently celebrated the completion of a fourplex project in Castlegar.
