Castlegar Search and Rescue took an injured woman for medical treatment when she was injured during a skiing trip in the Selkirk Mountains.
Castlegar RCMP officials said they received a call just before 6 a.m. on Sunday regarding an SOS emergency beacon that was activated by the owner.
Police were contacted by the emergency beacon company, who were able to provide details about the situation.
The device owner said they were in a group of five people who had travelled to Siwash Mountain, between Castlegar and Salmo, for a multi-day backcountry ski trip.
One of the skiers suffered a medical emergency and despite first aid in the mountainside hut, there was a concern with her ability to continue the trip and come down the mountain.
Castlegar RCMP got in touch with the local Search and Rescue team, who dispatched a helicopter crew to take the woman for medical attention.
Police officials said the group was found using GPS data.
“The group was located at the specified hut on the mountain and a 34-year-old Calgary woman was safely transported from the location, later receiving further medical care in hospital for her non-life threatening injury,” said Castlegar RCMP.
