Kootenay-Monashee BC NDP Candidate Steve Morissette

As the provincial election grows near, get to know your local BC NDP candidate for Kootenay-Monashee: Steve Morissette.

Who is Steve Morissette?

Steve Morissette is a lifelong Kootenay resident.

He has always called Fruitvale home, where he lives today with his wife and has raised his four boys.

Morissette is the current Mayor of Fruitvale, but before taking the top job, he was the director of operations in School District 20, gathering a deep understanding of the communities around him- Castlegar, Trail, Rossland and all in between.

First elected ten years ago to Council, Morissette has built a record of action on housing and childcare, having led the building of a 37-seat daycare and a 31 unit fully accessible affordable housing complex.

The Issues: Health, housing, addiction and the environment

Morissette says his goals line up with the BC NDP party’s, to tackle the growing areas of concern for both the Kootenays and the province.

From housing, to affordability, transport and the environment, it all deserves a voice for the better.

“I learned that being mayor of Fruitvale, we were able to build affordable housing and build a daycare, and we were able to build an active transportation plan and commit to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.” said Morissette.

“I’m honest, straightforward and transparent, and I will work hard for this riding, my strength is building relationships and building consensus among the team, as I have done and will continue to do.”

Finals Words

Morissette was short and simple, but effective in his final comments.

“The place we live in is wonderful and we need to protect it.”

The election will be held on October 19.
