Keeper, a Great Pyrenees-Kangal cross, has officially settled into his new home in Trail, thanks to the teamwork between Vancouver’s Avoice4Paws rescue and the Canadian Wings of Rescue (CWoR).
Keeper was surrendered to the rescue in Vancouver by his previous owners. Thankfully, he was able to find a new home quickly with a woman named Llora and her family in Trail; the only hurdle was figuring out how to get him there.
That’s when the rescue reached out to the Canadian Wings of Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing animals across the country. The organization works with animal rescue groups to help transport animals to wherever they need to go.
Cheryl Brean, CWoR spokesperson, says the organization has over 200 volunteer pilots who donate their time and aircraft for free to help transport animals, which is how Keeper was brought to his new home in the Kootenays.
“The rescue reached out to us to help coordinate the transport of Keeper. From there, we contacted our network of 200 pilots to see who would be interested in volunteering for this mission. In this case, Jason Biggins, who is a tenured pilot with us, volunteered to bring Keeper to his new adoptive home.”
From there, the transport went off without a hitch. Jayson met Llora as soon as they landed, and Brean says the pup is settling in very nicely at home now.
Brean mentions this is one of many successful missions the organization has had in BC and hopes the story of Keeper will raise local awareness of what CWoR can achieve.
“We really thank the communities that continue to work with us. As a volunteer organization, we always welcome donations and would love to help spread the word about our efforts. We are also always recruiting private pilots to join our mission.
We have a very seamless way for pilots to check what might be appealing to them in terms of flying with us. So, if there is any interest within the pilot community, please reach out to us.”
