The overtime work ban against Arrow Lake ferry operator WaterBridge Ferries has been suspended.
Effective 3 p.m. on Friday, the ferries will instead operate on a fixed reduced schedule.
The overtime work ban was enacted by the BCGEU on behalf of 90 WaterBridge Ferry employees on October 1, following months of unsuccessful negotiations with the employer over a new collective agreement.
With the overtime work ban now effectively halted, the ferries at Upper Arrow Lake will begin a 50 per cent reduction in ferry sailings, meaning every second round-trip sailing will be cancelled.
The ferries at Needles, Arrow Park, and Adams Lake will begin their reduced schedule at 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
“We will maintain the essential services order during this time of reduced sailings. Emergency sailings will still go ahead,” said BCGEU spokesperson Susan Howatt.
“Our members want to give the public certainty and predictability about the ferry schedules, especially during this upcoming long weekend.”
