KIJHL weekend wrap up

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League completed its fifth week of regular season action for the 2024-25 season.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks got back into the top five mix with a pair of wins, kicking things off with a 3-1 win over the Revelstoke Grizzlies, and then having a perfect penalty kill in a 6-2 win over the Nelson Leafs.

The Nitehawks are 7-2-1 on the season.

The Nelson Leafs had a mixed bag of results, after winning 3-2 in over time against Sicamous at home Friday, thanks to veteran Carson Crawford. They then were unable to capitalize on their power plays in Beaver Valley, falling 6-2.

They then returned to home ice to host Revelstoke who scored the first 6 goals of the game in a 7-2 loss.

Meanwhile Castlegar played south of the border on Friday to fall 3-2 in a shootout against Spokane Braves.

They then played back at home the next night where they had had an early 2-0 lead on Sicamous, only for the Eagles to score the next 3 straight in a 3-2 loss.

The Creston Valley Thunder Cats split up their games over the weekend.

Sanjay Chalupiak tied Friday’s game midway through the 3rd period, only for Kamloops to score a minute later. They added a few empty netters for a 6-3 win over the Thunder Cats.

Brendan Smith made 44 stops the next night, as the Thunder Cats limit the Bruins offense to 3 in a 5-3 victory for themselves.

Following their loss to the Thunder Cats, the Border Bruins took on the Rockies that saw the game swinging back and forth in the first 2 periods but, in the 3rd the Border Bruins took over scoring 3 goals in 5 minutes for a 6-3 win.
