BC Hydro are warning residents the discharge rates from Arrow Lakes Reservoir will fluctuate noticeably starting today and that safety should be your top priority when planning activities near the Columbia River.
When combined with the outflows from the Kootenay River, Columbia River levels at Birchbank are expected to fluctuate by 0.9 metres (3 feet). Please make safety your top priority when planning activities near the Columbia River.
Navigational Lock Closure, Monday, November 25
The navigation lock at the Hugh L. Keenleyside Dam will be closed starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26.
This closure is necessary to accommodate ongoing project work.
Regular hours of operation for the navigation lock are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends. This service is available at no charge for all properly equipped watercraft. Please note that the last lock cycle begins at 3:30 p.m.
BC Hydro says the closure is necessary to accommodate ongoing project work and apologize for the inconvenience and patience during this time.
The lock is mainly used by Zellstoff Celgar and Interfor to bring logs down the Arrow Lakes.
