A brush fire at Teck’s Rossland Avenue property in Trail, behind the Best Western Terra Nova, has Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue (KBRFR) warning community members that wildfire season has arrived earlier than expected this year.
Just after 10am this morning, Monday March 3, eight members from Station 374, along with four members from Teck Fire, responded promptly to a brush fire, measuring approximately 50 x 50 feet.
Captain Ryan Smyth says swift and coordinated efforts helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
“We urge everyone to exercise caution when engaging in open burning and when discarding cigarettes to prevent accidental fires. Should you be uncertain about burning restrictions, kindly refer to the following website for the latest updates.”
The fire is being treated as suspicious and is under investigation by Regional Fire Rescue.
