Fruitvale residents have elected Karen Halifax as their new councillor when they went to the polls for the village’s byelection on Saturday, April 5.
Halifax was one of three candidates in the running, alongside Terry Skarbo and Jimmy Swanson.
In the preliminary results released Saturday night, Halifax won 174 votes, with Skarbo following behind with 146, and Swanson, 81.
Halifax will serve on council until the current term ends in October 2026.
The results
Of the 1,611 eligible voters based on BC Civic Info data from the 2022 municipal election, a total of 401 ballots were cast on the weekend.
88 ballots were cast during advance voting on March 6, 26 votes during a limited voting window on April 4, and 287 on general voting day.
