More bad news for transit service in our region.
Castlegar Mayor and West Kootenay Transit Committee Chair Lawrence Chernoff says the province has told them that Regional Districts and municipalities cannot use their own money to maintain service levels.
This after BC Transit announced a three year funding freeze earlier this year.
Chernoff says the recently implemented Saturday service that connects the West Kootenay is in jeopardy. Even inflationary cost increases may not be allowed by the province so that threatens new expansions like Saturday service.
He says many B.C. mayors will be sharing their concerns on transit at September’s UBCM conference
